Here is a fun way to celebrate Valentines Day (a holiday which my hubby and I actually hate to celebrate**) with a fun recipe for layered heart cupcakes. Its really easy, it just takes some time to put it all together.
Step one: Take some white cake batter and separate into 5 bowls (or however many colors you want to make).
Step Two: Add food coloring to each batter bowl. I chose red, blue, green, purple and yellow.
Step Three: Pour batter into individual cupcake cups (I had heart shaped tins - thanks Mom!) about 1/3 full and bake.
Step Four: After baking (I baked at 350 for 16 minutes), allow to cool and remove from tins.
Step Five: Cut hearts in half.
Step Six: Stack each cut heart, layer on top of one another, applying frosting in between each layer.
Step Seven: Frost the outside and decorate if you'd like. (I am awful at this step - its so hard to get the frosting on without ripping the cake!)
Step Eight: Serve and enjoy! (and dont eat too much frosting, no one wants diabetes!)
Happy Valentines Day!
**Note: Dont get me wrong, I love LOVE, I just hate "forced-commercialized love." I dont want to buy a card to tell my husband that I love him, just because Hallmark says I should. Its much better to show your love randomly, spontaneously - just because! For no reason at all! Theres nothing more romantic than being SURPRISED with love and affection! And with that in mind...I say to all of you - enjoy LOVE and live every day like its Valentines Day!
Thanks for checking in!
